Every one has heard of the term “Business Coach”. Do a search at Google, msn or yahoo on the internet and you will get over a million search results. They all say they can help you and your business. But what can they do for you?
And most importantly why do you need a business coach?
Listed below are 7 reasons why you, as a business owner, may need a business coach…
1. Not making enough profits
2. Give you some direction to marketing and selling your products
3. To keep you accountable
4. To fast track your success as a business owner
5. A shoulder to bounce things off
6. Hold your hand in the step-by-step process of growing your business
7. Finding the right people for your organisation
1. Not Making Enough Profit
Have you been in business for a few years and your business is now stagnant? Are you making a profit, but going nowhere? A business coach will teach you how to turn your business around and how to take your business to the next level.
What a business coach will teach you will apply not just to one business, but to all your businesses. You can apply the principles you learn to any business you own.
2. Give You Some Direction To Marketing And Selling Your Products
You have the ideal product, but as a result of advertising and marketing nothing is happening. So do you give up? No. Hire a business coach as he is an expert and will be able to help you.
A business coach will show you how to market your product and how to find the right target market. With the right audience you can market your products and/or services correctly. Once you understand the marketing procedures, you can apply them in the future to anything you wish to sell.
3. To Keep You Accountable
A business coach will keep you accountable for your business and what you should be doing to grow you business. He will be there to guide you each step of the way, while you put what you learn into practice. He will not do it for you. You will be. What you learn can be applied to any marketing campaign, now and in the future.
4. To Fast Track Your Success As A Business Owner
Just like a talented athlete you would use a business coach to give you structure and direction to guide you through the learning process of running a business.
A business coach will put you on track and show you what to do at the right times. He is your coach, mentor, consultant and advisor. He will make you and your business, the best. A world class champion business.
5. A Shoulder To Bounce Things Off
It can be lonely running your own business. You need someone that can answer your questions on all parts of your business and can help you bounce ideas and give you instructions and can look outside the square and give you a different perspective.
A business coach is like a silent partner. A partner who has a financial interest in the business, but you get to keep the rewards.
6. Hold Your Hand In The Step-By-Step Process Of Growing Your Business
Sometimes in business, you get to the point where you are a bit unsure of what to do next. You feel like you want to hit your head against a brick wall.
A business coach will give you the guidance and steps, on what is coming up and how you need to prepare things and what you need to do when you are doing it so that it can be more comfortable for you. A business coach is like a guardian angel. He is there for you every step of the way guiding you with a helping hand.
7. Finding The Right People For Your Organisation
A business coach will help you find the right people for you and your business. He will let you know the secrets of the correct way to recruit and how to attract the right people. You can use a recruitment agency, but they will hire the person they think would be suitable. And generally, they are not ideal.
A business coach will help you find the ideal person.

4 Quick Tips to Boost Your Self-Confidence
Loss of self-confidence can happen to anyone at any time. Here are four easy activities that a person can do to help boost their confidence.
Mary Chapin Carpenter has a line in one of her songs that goes, "Sometimes you're the windshield; sometimes you're the bug." When I've suddenly lost my confidence, I feel more like the bug, than the windshield.
When this happens, it's easy to replay the situation over and over again, hoping for a different ending. This usually only makes me feel worse. What I really need is something to remind me that being the "bug" is a temporary state. I don't think I'm alone here. All of us need confidence boosters at some time in our lives. Here are a few ideas that can help:
Remember a Time When You Were Confident
Write down a past experience that gave confidence. Think about why this experience made you feel confident. Who was involved? What happened? What did you do? Be as detailed about this experience as you can so that it is vivid in your mind. Refer to this experience to remind you that you have been confident before and will be again!
Make a Success Album
Use a 3x5 card to write down things you've been successful at in the past. In this case, success is anything you've done that's made you proud of yourself. It may be cleaning out your closets or bringing in a big account for work. Put the cards in a photo album. When your confidence is low, read the cards in your album to remind you that you've been successful in the past.
Affirm Your Confidence
Leave written affirmations on sticky notes in places where you will see them regularly. The notes can contain action affirmations, such as "You Can Do It" or a favorite confidence-building quote. It's best to use short phrases that are easily remembered and always use positive words. For example, it's better to say "I AM successful" rather than "I am not a failure." When you see the affirmation, it's also helpful to say it aloud, rather than reading it to yourself.
Let Your Answering Machine Pickup Your Confidence
Ask friends to call your answering machine and leave positive comments about your strengths, talents and what makes you special to them. When things aren't going well, listen to these comments to remind you that there are people who believe you are talented and very special.
Use these ideas to recharge your confidence. They're simple to do and useful to anyone who experiences a sudden loss of confidence or needs a confidence boost. They'll help remind you to be the windshield and not the bug!

Why Every Mom Needs A Life Coach
I think it takes so much courage to come forward and state that you are not a superwoman. Every mom could use some help to balance your life and to reach your dreams/goals. It can be complicated when you work alone to try to diagram your day, and set up limits of your time. Even just getting started with organization can be overwhelming. Life is trying and until you have a clearly designated time for everything, you will never achieve full success in any area. Coaching is a way to help you reprogram your thinking. Learning to have faith that when you listen to your heart you will find happiness, success and balance and do right by yourself and your family is the key to finding success in any coaching program. You have to think different terms. I work with so many women, and it’s so incredible when they learn to be the light in their life. In life you are either the light on your path, or the shadow.
As a Mommy CEO it can be such a struggle to find who you really are. So much of our lives are wrapped into our family and the role we have as mother, wife, homemaker, chef, driver...you know what I mean. It is a never ending role. Add in to that the business woman who is the driving force of the business, the marketing manager, the buyer.... and you can lose the 'you" that you used to know, or wish you were.
The first thing we do in our coaching program is try to see where it is you really want to go. It's so easy to get the bus full for the journey once you know where you are going... but if you have just said "Let go somewhere, anywhere..." who would want to take part in that life journey. And why would you want to take those that you love on a journey like that. And yet we do that every day.
It can be the wrong move to just have dreams/goals that you run out and just jump right into. Especially when we have such passion for our dreams/goals, and we want to provide a life for our loved ones that is full of substance and happiness rather than struggles. Life is made for dreams/goals. Dreams/goals light up our life. It's up to us to follow our hearts, and follow our dreams/goals and use the life that we have been given to really LIVE. But you need to develop an action plan, a life map that will take you from point ‘A’ to the ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’s. When you create a plan it is like a beacon of light shining like a laser in the night.
Think about the light? In my last book I delved into this subject. So I just want to touch base on how the light you give off works with your coaching process and reaching your dreams/goals.
How does the light beam bounce back, or reflect? Try shining your flashlight on a mirror. Shine it at different angles and see what happens. If you hold the mirror at an angle and shine a flashlight on it, does the light bounce back in your eyes? The definition of reflection is when light bounces off an object. Usually we associate reflection with a smooth, polished surface; however the surface doesn't have to be smooth. Light reflects off your shirt, therefore others can see that you're wearing one.
Think about this in terms of your own light force. When you are working hard on your journey, trying very hard to be more light-like and less selfish; the light will bounce from you to those around you. Just as this holds true, we have learned that it doesn’t have to be a smooth, shiny surface for the light to reflect off of you. So when you are full of ego, gossiping with your neighbors, etc… you are still reflecting your light upon those around you.
Try to think of a coaching program in terms of lighting your path, being a shining example of life and love along the way. Faith is not belief. Belief is passive. Faith is active. Be active in the journey; be active in lighting your path. Be active in your dreams/goals. Mom is the foundation of the family life. When you realize how to achieve your dreams/goals by working with a coach you brighten the lives of everyone you love.

Coaching the ADHD Brain
The pill and then the skill. If you are serious about changing your life, medication alone may not be sufficient. Why? If you are an adult who has grown up with an under functioning brain you probably have a distorted negative perception of yourself and the world. With your newly tuned brain you need to learn new beliefs and habits. Coaching will guide you through this apprenticeship.
People with ADHD want to change because they are desperate to escape the chaos which dominates their lives. They often have a poor idea of how the world works and where they fit in. Medication helps the brain function better, but the belief systems are acquired early in life and if they are based on a faulty attention system they may be skewed.
The powerful effect of coaching comes from the safe friendly environment and the questions your coach asks. Questions are the keys your coach offers you to unlock your hidden resources. They lead you to think about alternatives, to explore new vistas and to choose the direction which best suits you. Making choices leads to ownership instead of victimization. The result is a new awareness of self. Your coach is a cheer leader who expects you to succeed. She is a mirror which reflects your strengths.
Coaching starts with an inventory of where the client is now and where he wants to go: his values, vision, and goals and the skills he has to manage life: organizing, planning, prioritizing and time management. He will choose two or three areas that he wants to focus on in coaching. In following sessions, held once a week by telephone, your coach hears your weekly success report, helps you explore problems that have arisen and asks you to choose and commit to your next steps for the coming week.
A successful coaching relationship requires honesty and a willingness to change. You will do the work of creating new habits. It is important that this is important for you and not your spouse, parent or employer. Your coach will ask your permission to be honest with you. It may be hard, but important for you to learn how others see you.
Sarah Jane Keyser worked for many years with computers as programmer, analyst, and user trainer, but her struggle with inattentive ADD kept getting in the way of her plans and dreams. Once ADD was identified and the great need that coaching filled, she added ADD Coach training (ADDCoach Academy) to complete her preparation for a new career as ADD Coach.

Success Coaching: Instant Success
By: Jim M. Allen
As a success coach, I have a lot of fun working with energetic, motivated individuals who are eager to turn their dreams into reality. They've made that important step from talking about success to actually creating it.
In helping these "doers" create the necessary strategies to achieve their goals, much of my time is spent talking with them about their expectations of how quickly they can accomplish their goals. In the success coaching process, it's not always the most enjoyable part of what we do together, but it is a very important one. After all, it's important to have big goals to work towards, but it's just as important to have realistic expectations about how and when those dreams can be made real.
Unfortunately, everything today is about speed and getting more done, faster than ever before. Not necessarily a bad goal, but that push for speed spills over into all aspects of our lives. We want fast service and fast results -- no matter what we're doing.
Everywhere we look in our instant-everything environment we see examples of this: fast-food restaurants, one-hour photo stores, 10-minute oil change shops, do-it-yourself express-lane checkout, etc. We continue to move faster and faster and we grow incredibly impatient, especially when it comes to people enjoying the fruit of our own efforts. Getting all we ever wanted just isn't enough, unless in can happen instantly.... overnight... right away... right now!
Success, however, rarely (if ever) occurs instantaneously. It comes to you on its own schedule as the result of consistent, persistent action. Rather than stressing yourself out, take things easy take your time stop expecting instant results. Do what needs doing and let life take its own course. This way, you can focus on working smarter and more efficiently while enjoying the process of what you're doing.
Sure, there will be times when you get immediate results and achieve success quickly. Most of the time you'll need to be patient Just because you're not getting instant results doesn't mean you won't get any. If you keep working towards your goals, maintaining a sustained, consistent effort, readjusting your plans as necessary along the way, you will create the success you're looking for.
Consider this analogy: You build a large, thousand-mile-long pipeline, from Alaska to California. You drill for oil and start pumping it into the pipeline Now, do you have oil coming out of the other end immediately? Of course not! You have to be patient and wait a while. Eventually, the oil will start to flow at the other end, but only if you keep on drilling and filling up the pipe.
It's the same way your own efforts. You have to be patient while your work creates the success you desire. By not forcing the timetable and pushing for immediate results, you actually improve your chances of achieving your goals.
How can get a more realistic expectation of your goals? Easy...
First, make a plan before you mark your calendar. That's right, sit down and figure out exactly how you're going to achieve your goal. Figure out all the steps. Determine what resources you already have and which ones you need Then write it all down, ALONG WITH your estimate of how long it will take to accomplish each individual step! Chances are your time estimates for individual steps will be more accurate than a single estimate for the entire project since you will be looking at smaller action items.
Second, with your firm-but-flexible plan in hand, make a list of potential obstacles, big and small, that could get in your way. Counterintuitive? Too negative? I don't think so It's really an extension of planning that can actually save you time. Thinking about what may slow you down helps prepare you for overcoming those obstacles, thus speeding you back up. Figure out the average time delay an obstacle presents and factor that into your time estimates.
Third, and finally, look around for examples of people who have accomplished the same (or a similar) goal. Ask them how long it took them to achieve success (versus what they thought it would take)? What obstacles did they face? What surprises did they encounter along the way?
Talking with others who have done what you want to do is a great way to estimate how long it might take you. Plus, you get the added benefit of learning from other people's experience (which, again, could save you a lot of time)!
Three very simple steps, but they can help you focus your mind on the real work necessary to make your dreams a reality.
With a more realistic sense of what can be accomplished, the more you'll enjoy every step in the process of creating success in your life. And when you do reach your goals, you'll see that the success you achieve is more than worth the wait.

Change: The Other Dirty Word
What comes to mind when you hear the word change? Are you fearful? Excited? Does you blood run cold or do you hear yourself saying, “I like things just the way they are.”? Is “change”, the other dirty word?
Most of us find change hard. Not necessarily because we do not want to change but because it is sailing into the unknown. Who knows what is going to be around the next bend in the road? We are most likely to rail against changes that are going to have an adverse effect on our lives.
It’s easy to see why someone would be upset if they lost their job. It is one of those unexpected changes in life, just something that changes without our control. One thing we didn’t see coming, one that we were not prepared for. It is natural to be resistant, be angry, or every scared as you travel into the mysterious future without the security that was once there.
Most people continue on, find a new job and most times find out that the change turned out to be a good one. Maybe they found an even better job, maybe they found a job that allows them be with their family more, or they decided to go back to school. Sometimes its easier to change when you are pushed into a corner.
So, if what seems like a negative change can turn out to be a positive, then why is it that people fight making positive changes in their lives, as well? Why do we not change things that we do not like in our lives? What makes us procrastinate the changes that could make our lives better? What do we fear?
Often times it is the fact that we fear failure, even though it is not consciously known. What if we fail to make our dreams a reality? What happens to that dream then? Is that what you fear? The lost of a dream? Trying and failing?
It is natural in human nature to think the worst. Failure would mean the death of a dream. But, what if you tried and succeed?
It is possible, isn’t it? People do it everyday, they accomplish their goals, and they reach their dreams. They choose to push pass the fear of failure, the fear of loosing a dream, and bring into reality what was only a vision in their mind.
So, how do we push past the fear, the doubt, and the anxiety of changing our lives for the better, while expecting the worst? What makes us take that leap of faith? Usually, it is a realization that, “its just not working anymore”. Whether it, is a career, a relationship, or even something within themselves. It is evident that there needs to be a change, in order to fulfill the yearning to find what is missing in their lives. That is what motivates people to get through the fear of moving forward instead of just towing the status quo.
Break it down in steps. Just saying, “I want a better job.” is a daunting goal, unless you break down it down into the steps that will lead you there. Utilize the tools or skills that are going to move your towards that big goal at the end. If you goal is to get a better job, then determine what you need to do it. Would having your degree help put you in that better job? What about improving your skills? By breaking your goals down into steps, it will increase your changes to achieve because you are laying down the foundation on which your goal or dreams can be built on. Without a good foundation your aspirations might not have the support then need to grow and flourish.
Being determined, willing, and committed to change. Change is not an easy course of action. It is the process of breaking old habits and replacing them with better routines that will lead you towards what you want to accomplish. You did not create those old habits over night, it has been months or years of “practice”, of them becoming routine to you. Change is not going to happen overnight, it too will take practice.
If for example you are trying to change the habit of always looking at the negative, then you will have to actually practice flipping that immediate habit of negative thinking or perception into a positive way of thinking. It takes work, it takes time, and it takes persistence. You will have to remind yourself of what the benefits of maintaining a positive perception will give you.
Stay motivated by reminding yourself what accomplishing each step is going to mean to you. Will you be happier? More confident? What will that lead you to? With more confident will you be able to be more successful? Will it be a stepping stone to something bigger and better? Will it make changing your life easier?
Get the support that you need. Most people let pride stand in their way of asking for help. There has always been and always will be people in our life that shows us examples of over coming adversity, that help us find our personal strength. Surround yourself with people that have accomplished what you are trying to do. Seek out people that uses the skills that you want to develop. Be around people that tend to bring out the best in you. Spend time with people that will not give up on you and will tell you all the reasons that you should not give up on yourself or your dreams.
Above all, you have to believe in yourself. Find the strength you need within yourself. Empower yourself to follow that path to life improvement through change. Take it one step at a time. We only need the courage to over come that fear and to take those steps that will lead to a better future. Tap into your strength. Believe in yourself and in your power to overcome obstacles. Believe that you can design the life you want and get to your heart’s desire at the end of the path called change.

5 Ways To Strengthen Your Personal Foundation
Foundations are important when you want to build anything. You know the construction rule which the taller the building, the deeper the foundation. It really is no different when you are building a life!
Let me ask you, do you take better care of your car than yourself? Are you tired? Approaching burnout? And not much fun to be around? If you said yes to some of theses questions, it is time to shore up your own foundation. The bigger your goals, the more energy and focus you need. A strong personal foundation is your support system to achieve success.
1. Focus on your strengths. Life is too short to perfect your weaknesses. Stop trying to do it all! Do the things you have a passion and brilliance for and delegate or dump the rest. Is it time to hire a Virtual Assistant? I know....I know..... you are a perfectionist and no one can do it like you. Some things are not worth doing perfectly. Other things will be done faster and better by someone who has different skills than you. Let go of the things that you can delegate and focus on the activities that bring you money and that you love to do.
2. Set boundaries. Life is too short to work with jerks! Luckily most clients don't fall into that category, but maybe need a little coaching on how to treat you. If you don’t respect yourself, others won't treat you with respect either. You train people how you want to be treated by what you will accept. Once you’ve communicated and set boundaries with others, they will usually honor them. Most people want it to be a win/win. For those that don't...you've got 2 words for them...bye-bye!
3. Plan your time off and vacations first. Life is too short to postpone the fun! You have a business and you have a life that the business supports. Enjoy the benefits of your hard work. Otherwise, you rob yourself of pleasure and probably do a poorer job for clients when you are feeling overworked or burned out. Time for rejuvenation should be a weekly block of time. The studies show that people who overwork, lose efficiency. So, plan to fill up your personal gas tank EVERY week!
4. Get rid of tolerations. Life is too short to get bogged down in the muck. The energy draining vampires are subtle but powerful. They distract you and impact your effectiveness. Use this exercise to minimize these energy suckers: Make a long list of everything you are tolerating. Start to attack 5 each week. You'll be amazed at the difference this makes in just a few weeks.
5. Enjoy Yourself. Life is too short to live someone else’s expectations. One of my favorite quotes is by my husband, Bub, who says,"If you aren't enjoying yourself you are doing it wrong." I misquoted him once by saying "If you aren't having fun, you are doing it wrong" and he corrected me by explaining it was about enjoying SELF. In other words, liking the person you are and the things you are doing. Being true to your values and expressing your unique flavor is integral to this.
There you go....some personal foundation building blocks. Working on which of these would enhance your joy and your life? Go for it!

Your Thoughts Create Futures—How Does Yours Look
As a man thinketh in his heart so is he Proverbs 23:7
One of the most important things we can do if not the most important is to spend sometime thinking about what we are thinking about. Yes, thoughts are powerful things. They make us who we are. Do you remember when you were young and your mom or somebody use to say to you, who do you think you are. Then you started to doubt yourself.
Or even now people will try to talk you out of stepping out of the box because they are so used to stinkin’ thinking. I suggest listening to positive self help CDs on tapes in the car. This will help you stay focused on being positive. Not only does thoughts have power but what we speak with our mouth multiplies and brings that very thing into existence.
Here are some tips to help control your thinking and keep them going in the right direction:
•Pay attention to what you take in. If you’re listening to someone who is always negative, gossip, negative music, then chances are you will be to. Garbage in Garbage out.
•Make time for reflection. What good things are happening today? Write them down in a journal. What areas of your life could use some improving?
•Let things go quickly. If you make a mistake, Apologize and let it go. Move on.
•Leave the past in the past. Stop rehashing old things that happened in the past.
•Forgive people who have hurt you in the past. We are all human and we make mistakes including you.
•What you focus on grows. So focus on loving people, and encouraging people. Get out and help someone else. “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”
•Find a new circle of friends. It is said that the 6 people closest to you determines your future. Start to notice if everyone around you is negative. Find some new people to be around. If it is you who are negative, make an effort every second of everyday to stay focused on things that are positive.
Constantly cast down those negative thoughts and replace them with positive.
•Spend time daily visualizing the results you want. Start acting like you have already achieved them.

How do you know if you need to take time to be still?
We’re living in an outcome-based society. If what you’re doing isn’t producing a result, chances are you’re going to quit doing it. We're just too busy to keep doing things that don't make something happen. When you started pruning your to-do list, I would bet that one of the first things you quit doing was taking time for you. It could be that you quit reading for fun or that you quit a hobby that you enjoyed. You may have quit spending time alone and watching the sunrise over a cup of coffee. You may have quit taking a long bubble bath. Looking back on that choice, has it served you well? What have you lost as a result of not pampering yourself for a few minutes each day? You may not know, but you should think about it.
If you’re like me, you are looking for a way to find that connection to yourself and to really feel energized each and every day – no matter how many times you were up overnight feeding a baby or comforting a child after a bad dream. How do you know if that personal time you chose to give up is really important? There are a few symptoms to look for.
The first is that you’ll feel like there is so much to do and not enough time to get it all done. This feeling of being overwhelmed is one of the first signs that you need to take some time for yourself. During this quiet time, you can take a step back from your frantic schedule and evaluate what is important and what is just something sparkly that distracts you. When you take a short breather, you can return to your to-do list with a renewed sense of clarity, focus, and energy.
The second symptom is that people begin to irritate you and you feel that they are putting you behind schedule. You may get angry easier than you’d like. Your impatience shows and you may snap at those you love or those who just don’t deserve it. Being impatient is a sign that you have scheduled too much in your day and that you don’t have room for contingencies. Taking a few minutes to be still can help you look at things with a new perspective. Does getting angry really make it better?
A third sign that you need to schedule some self-time to be still is that you feel tired. No matter how much sleep you’re getting at night, you just feel exhausted all the time. This isn’t so much a physical exhaustion as it is a mental one. You need to rest your mind and spirit just as much as you rest your body. When you give your mind a break by taking 20 minutes to focus on something that you enjoy – to really focus on the present moment – you will let your brain process all it’s functions in the background. Your subconscious will be able to put those memories and activities in the right storage place in the brain instead of trying to keep them all in the conscious memory. You may not think this is so important, but after you have spent a week or so deliberately spending time being still, you’ll see how much better you remember things.
Another symptom of needing to be still is that you feel like nothing gets done, even though you are always busy. This is a common symptom in moms. Doesn’t it seem like that you work all day and at the end of the day, the laundry is dirty, the house is a mess, and the dishes are piled in the sink? It is a common source of frustration for moms who feel like so much of what they do gets undone so quickly. Taking some time for yourself every day to be still will bring some wonderful benefits (as outlined above) as well as give you something each day that cannot be undone by someone else.
A final symptom of needing to be still is that you may be seeking a deeper spiritual connection or a stronger intuition. Do you feel something is missing in your life? Do you see others who enjoy their intuition and you wish you could as well? Do you sometimes feel that there must be something bigger than this? It could be that you are seeking a stronger spiritual connection and you just don’t have the tools for finding it. One of the best ways to make this connection is by taking time to be still. Dr. Wayne Dyer suggests that it is in the silence of the universe that God speaks to us. We never hear what we are supposed to hear unless we spend some time enjoying the silence of the universe around us. If you’re looking to meet your higher self or to listen to what your intuition is saying, then it is essential to spend some time listening. It will be hard at first, but if you will set aside a few moments each day to just listen, you will hear the message. It helps if you have something you can do with your hands while you sit. I like to knit, but almost any handcraft will do.
Do you find yourself in the symptoms here? I often find myself in each symptom on different days. That’s how I know that it’s time to take some time for myself. It isn’t selfish, it’s survival. You’ll have a much happier life, your family, friends, and colleagues will enjoy you more, and you’ll be energetic, patient, and fully alive. I challenge you to spend a week and see what happens when you sit deliberately still for 20 minutes a day.
If you need an excuse to spend time for you, then consider doing a craft that keeps you in the present moment. Most crafts are this way - knit, crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch, woodworking, and even candle and soap making. I even find that people making jewelry enjoy the serenity of the moment. It's a great way to take that time for yourself and get a chance to make something beautiful for yourself or someone else.

Most crafts are this way - knit, crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch, woodworking, and even candle and soap making. I even find that people making jewelry enjoy the serenity of the moment. It's a great way to take that time for yourself and get a chance to make something beautiful for yourself or someone else.

Time Management Strategy - Stop, Take A Step Back & Reevaluate
If things are getting on top of you and you feel like there simply aren't enough hours in the day, it may be time to take a step back and reevaluate your situation. With the pressures of modern life it is easy to lose focus on the goals that are genuinely important to us. If this sounds like you, it is probably time to stop and take a closer look at how you really want to spend your time.
I invite you to start this right away. Commit now to a time, perhaps away from your usual distractions when you can sit down and be alone with yourself and your thoughts. Then with pen and paper in hand, you can look at how you are spending your time now and how ideally you want to spend your time in the future. You need to discover your own motivation and turn it into a compelling reason to act.
Once you are clear about your own motivations, you will use these as a constant reminder in order to even out the ups and downs. These reasons will help you through the tough times or when you feel it is not worth the effort.
When you have gained a clear idea of your goals for the future and how you wish to spend your time you next need to look at how you are actually spending your time now. First of all you should ask yourself the following questions:
• What does my life both personally and professionally look like and feel like today?
• What am I currently spending my time on?
Write down everything that comes to mind. Think about your work, who you spend your time with, your living environment and your income. Also, try to pinpoint the things that are missing from your life as these will hold the key to your using your time more effectively in the future.
The best way to discover where you spend your time is by using a time log. A time log is a record of how you use your time, day in and day out. It is very important that you keep one so that you can see exactly where your time is spent.
If you do this even for just one week you will get a clear idea of how you really spend your time and will probably see some surprising results. Now, that you have a clear idea of how you want to spend your time and how you really pass the hours, it is time to compare the two.
When you do this you will most likely see huge differences between them. I appreciate this may feel daunting and I encourage you to keep going, you are already moving in the right direction.
You will see that change is required, sometimes big and sometimes small. Now you can begin to take steps to spending your time in a way that will make these changes come about. Start with the small things and set yourself realistic short-term goals. Basically, take it step by step. Continue to take small steps towards your goals and later you can move onto some of the bigger changes you may need to make.

Life Balance? What The Heck is That?!
One of the biggest challenges that many of my clients bring to their coaching sessions revolves around achieving life balance. This is not surprising when you consider that we live in a world where there is so much going on, so many choices to make, and a myriad of demands on our time. Given the fast-paced nature of the world in which we live, how exactly does one achieve the ever-coveted state of “balance”?
The critical first step is to define what life balance actually is. As much as the phrase is a popular one, most people aren’t able to clearly articulate its meaning. The reason for this is quite simple: balance looks different to each person. What looks like a balanced, manageable day for one person may look like complete chaos to another individual. So, it is essential that you get clear on what balance looks like for you. Ask yourself: what would be present in my life if things were more balanced? What would I be doing? How would I be feeling? Once you know the answers to these questions, then you’ve got a solid sense of what you’re aiming for. You’ve got a direction in which to head.
Which bring us to the second aspect of the definition. People often assume that “balance” is a state of being, a destination. The fact, however, is that it is not a destination but rather a direction. In every moment of every day you are presented with choices. The choices you make are either moving you in the direction of balance, or away from it. It behooves you to remember this because if you labour under the illusion that balance is a state of being then you can fail to recognize it when you actually have it. So, say it with me, and repeat it often: BALANCE IS A DIRECTION; IT’S NOT A DESTINATION.
The final piece of the definition is to remember that “balanced” does not equate to stress-free or perfect. Life, being what it is, will always have its ups and downs. When you are making choices that move you towards balance, however, the up-and-down moments don’t knock you off course; you simply move with them and take them in stride. Think about roller-coaster rides. There are some roller-coasters that send you to the place of complete nausea; you exit the ride and head for the nearest garbage can or washroom as quickly as possible. There are other roller-coasters, however, that leave you feeling absolutely exhilarated. There’s a thrill to the ride, even with its ups and downs. You know you can go back for more, and handle it just fine. In the same way, when your life choices are in line with what you want, and you’re moving towards balance more often than not, life’s ups and downs are just part of the journey.
Knowing how to define balance, recognizing what it actually means for you in your world is essential to being able to live a “balanced life”. Next time, we’ll explore what to do once you’re clear on what balance means for you. Until then, here’s an activity to do: create a collage that captures the essence of the life you’re creating. Make sure it speaks to who you are and how you want to be. Then post this visual reminder of your balanced life in a prominent place. Happy collaging! Here’s to getting clear on how you want your life to be.

Don't Set New Year's Resolutions - Take Action in The New Year
By: wendy hearn
It's that time of year again when we start talking and thinking about New Year's Resolutions even though they're old hat and we instinctively know they don't work. Because your friends, family and colleagues may chat about what Resolutions they're going to make, do you find yourself wondering whether to make any? We know that within a few days or weeks, the Resolutions will be forgotten, nothing will have changed and yet for some reason most people still worry about them. So why do we still bother with New Year's Resolutions? First, they're a custom and a New Year ushers in a new start, so what better time than now? There's even a small chance that we may stick to our Resolutions this year, so we have a go. The main reason some people think about New Year's Resolutions is because they want to change things in their life.
There's the usual New Year's Resolutions, such as I want to lose weight, change jobs, or earn more money but they tend to be the same ones you've had for years and they're still incomplete. These types of Resolutions are too vague. It's this vagueness, coupled with a lack of action which means that most people don't achieve their New Year's Resolutions. For Resolutions to work, they need to be well thought out and have real meaning. If not, they become a vague item on your "wish list" instead of actually doing something concrete about them.
The word resolution comes from 'resolve' and means to make up one's mind or decide firmly. Prior to New Years Day you may think of Resolutions you want to make and probably feel you've made up your mind, but what happens? Probably, very little or even nothing at all. Even though you know that Resolutions don't usually work, it seems that most us still want to make them. Perhaps that's because other people around you do it, so you feel you should follow suit because there are things in your life which you want to be different. The end of a year is a time for clearing out and completing things, to leave us with a clean slate ready to start a new year. There's something about a new year, a new beginning, and a fresh start which encourages us to make New Year's Resolutions. It's a powerful feeling to know you have a year ahead of you and you can choose what you do with it. It's a time for reflection about where you want to go next.
What about committing to New Year changes and actions, rather than Resolutions? The key to achieving what you really want in life and business is to take action to achieve those changes. It's the lack of action which stops us from having what we most want. What you want will be different for each individual and may include
More time in your personal life
Less stress and more fun.
Greater business and career success.
Balance between work and home
Altering your management or leadership style.
You may think I'm talking about life and business separately, yet they're inextricably linked. The key point is that you may want to focus on your professional life, yet this is directly related to your personal life.
Thinking about New Year's Resolutions may have made you aware that there are some changes you want to make. I encourage you to take steps on a consistent basis to make these changes, rather than vaguely tossing Resolutions around and not doing anything about them.

Where You Focus Your Attention Is What You Get!
By: Laura Howard West
Cheryl Richardson, a favorite author and fellow coach, has written a new
book called "Stand Up for Your Life". In this book she talks about how our
society tends to "bond over stress instead of success". I see this in
action every day in my own life and in the lives of my clients.
We tend to give each other permission to complain freely- it's actually
become the way we interact with others. It's OK to compare stresses or say
something negative to a total stranger for the sake of opening a
conversation and relating to each other. For example, you get in the
elevator on a rainy day, "Some storm! Traffic was terrible!". We feel free
to talk about what's wrong with everything from traffic, weather, the kids,
the husband/wife, work, the messy house to crowded/late flights.
So what's wrong with this you might ask? Well, it creates constant whining
and complaining if you're not careful!! While each of these little snippets
of conversation seem meaningless, when you look at an entire day it can
really add up to a negative outlook on life. With this negative way of
thinking it can be hard to believe in our dreams, be truly happy and feel
gratitude for our life.
We tend to look for evidence of life being hard/bad/difficult so we can
share it with someone or to prove our point. I know I've been a creator of
my own "negative spiral". I have gone through a day looking for evidence to
support how tough my life is. I awaken with a sinus headache and immediately
think it's going to be a "bad day" and then I find all the proof I
need...there's traffic, I'm out of gas, I forgot the baby bottles, I'm late,
etc... When we keep our focus on looking for this evidence it's no surprise
that we do in fact have a bad day.
What if you started a conversation with a success? Something like..."Hey,
the greatest thing happened today.....I got a new client, how about those
beautiful flowers out front, or I made the best dinner last night!" What if
you started looking for evidence of "Having a Great Day".
Recently Psychology Today reported how a positive attitude can help you live
longer because you feel like you have more control over your life. Your
energy will amp up because you are choosing to not focus on your life using
the media mentality of "the sky is always falling". And in the simplest
of terms...the smile on your face is more likely to put a smile on someone
else's face!
When was the last time you actually encouraged someone to talk about what's
going well in their life? We naturally do this with our kids. We listen
while they tell us how they made a slam dunk or read a new word. I often
ask my son, Nicholas," What's the most awesome thing that happened to you
today?" I get the best answers! It's usually funny which makes me laugh and
it definitely makes me feel like we shared something real about his day.
A friend of mine, Sherean, has that positive outlook on life and for the
people who are in her life. She fully believes that I am creative,
resourceful and fully capable of doing anything I want to do. She values my
opinions, encourages my ideas, and I can talk about my success (yes, even
brag - oh my!). She lets me "shine my light" when we're together. Just
planning a lunch with her gets me in such a good mood. My creative juices
go into overdrive and my energy sparks just knowing that it's such a
supportive alliance. In fact, by letting me shine it gives her permission
to do the same and the value is multiplied! It always results in an
incredibly uplifting and motivating conversation that carries into the rest
of our day.
We certainly need to have the support of close friends and family who we can
let it all hang out with - it's helpful to be able to ponder and process the
difficulties in life and share solutions. But we can also choose our
focus.
So where are you focusing your attention in your life? How does this
support your vision for how you want your life to be?

The Benefits of Having A Personal Coach
By: Aurelia Williams
If you have been watching the news, reading magazines, or even overhearing conversations while in line at the post office or grocery store, you may have heard about something called a “personal coach”. More and more people are turning to personal coaches each day; if you have ever wondered what one is and what they can help you with, read on!
Simply put, a personal coach helps you become the best “you” possible. Just like a sports coach helps athletes work out their problem areas and achieve new records with their strengths, a personal coach can help you set and meet goals that apply to many areas of your life.
In today’s society, many people over-book themselves with work, family, and social obligations. A personal coach can help you learn to manage your time effectively, and teach you new ways to calendar your time. You will work with your coach to find a system that works for you, and you’ll be able to meet all of your commitments. They’ll even help you carve out some personal time for yourself.
A personal coach can also help you with your parenting issues. It is no secret that being a parent is the toughest job you will ever have. A personal coach can help you work through any problems you have been having and help you learn new parenting techniques, as well as open the lines of communication between you and your child.
Stress is a common ailment that is shared by almost everyone. Some of the side effects of stress include aches, pain, fatigue, high blood pressure, anxiety and overeating. A personal coach can help you manage your stress levels. This alone can help you in all areas of your life. When you feel less stressed you will be happier and ready to take on new challenges.
Simply talking to a non-judgmental third party can do wonders for you. When people face problems, they areoften too embarrassed to ask for help. They may not want their friends or family to know they are struggling with something. This can lead to further feelings of isolation and depression. A personal coach is there to listen and help you find solutions for your problems.
Working with a personal coach is actually more affordable than you think. Most offer free consultations. It is important for you and your potential coach to get to know each other; after the initial consultation, you can decide if this coach is the right coach for you. Likewise, the coach can tell you openly and honestly if they can help you. If they can’t, they will refer you to someone who can.
These are just a few of the benefits of having a personal coach. Think about how great it would be to have someone on your side, rooting for you, giving you honest feedback, and helping you achieve new goals. If you have been struggling with reaching a goal, it is time you experience a free consultation with a coach, and find out how they can help you!
